What is Diversity
Diversity has numerous meanings. However, in this instance it is regarded as recognising and valuing peoples differing background, knowledge and experience and utilising these differences to create an effective and productive workforce.

The changing face of society means we can no longer take needs, values or cultures for granted. Diversity is about embracing equality and recognising individual needs, then using these to benefit the individual, the organisation and society as a whole.
Positive Action
The visible face of the construction industry remains to be predominantly white and male, leaving people from the ethnic minority communities and females greatly under represented. Positive Action can be used to assist, promote and provide incentives to encourage these under represented groups into the industry up until the point of employment selection. Employment must be gained on individual merit alone.
